Cais Do Sodré Lisbon. More than just a train station!
Once the red light district in Lisbon Cais Do Sodré has seen a fabulous face lift in recent year. Once a deary, grey and unwelcoming spot, Cais Do Sodré is now glamorous and stylish and the improvement works continues into the future.
Along Avenida Ribeira das Naus you will find the finished improvements works. Prior to 2012 this area was unloved and unappreciated by tourists and locals alike but today the half pedestrianised area is a hotspot for Lisbon lovers to enjoy a romantic sunset, tourists to dip their feet into the river Tagus and locals to sit, relax, with beer in hand either on the grass verge or the deckchairs provided by the local kiosk. During the summer months in 2016 locals enjoyed the alfresco parties with DJs welcoming the sunset.
Walk a further 100 metres and you will find the old salt warehouse which have recently been transformed into riverside bars, cafe and restaurants. Grab a drink at Vestigius a wine and gin house that boasts 1000 Portuguese and international wines and 100 gin varieties, pop around the corner and visit Station nightclub where you can dance the night away.
Just behind the warehouse you will find continued major updating works which is due to finish in 2017, after theses works are completed Cais Do Sodré will complete its transformation from ugly ducking to beautiful swan.
