10 Closest Beaches From Central Lisbon
Lisbon is one of the only cosmopolitan cities in Europe that has beaches on its doorstep. Lisbon beaches are really easy to reach and below are Activities In Portugal list of the 10 closest beaches from central Lisbon.
1, Cruz Quebrada
Cruz Quebrada is the 5th stop on the train line from cais to cascais. It is not the nicest beach on our list, The beach is meh but if you are looking for a quick fix this is the beach for you. There are no facilities here only a small cafe next to the train station, it may or may not be open.
2, Praia de Sao Bruno
The next train stop is Caxias, it is a short hop from the station to the beaches. The area is split into three beach areas, 2 at Praia de Sao Bruno. The main beach has beach beds, toilets and life guard. At the top there is cafe Baia Dos Golfinhos with indoor seating and outdoor grassed area where it is also possible to sunbathe.
3, Caxias Beach
Caxias Beach is the next stop and the beach is much more pleasing, the beach streches from Caxias Beach to Fort Giribita. Caxias Beach is a much longer expanse of beach but not covered by amenties.
4, Praia Velha
Praia Velha can be reached at Peco De Arcos stop. The walk from the station will take between 5 to 10 minutes. It may look unappealing but it’s saving grace is the walm temperature of the water and the water fountain spewing water high into the air. Plus it has recently been made into Lisbon first Dog Friendly beach. Great news for dog lovers!
5, Praia Paco De Arcos
In our opinion this beach is worth the 15 minute walk from the station. The beach has all the amenities that you need including two cafes, beach beds, life guards, toilets, beach showers and a beach open air gym. The beach is popular with locals and a little hidden from the main track.
6, Praia do Saisa
Santo Amaro is the next stop on the train. Praia Do Saisa is the next beach on our list of 10 beaches from central Lisbon, we are almost half way through. The beach is very pleasant, but it lacks some of the amenities of the other beaches as there is only 1 cafe and no toilets. It has beach beds and life guards.

7, Praia de Santo Amaro de Oeiras
This is beach is great for those that LOVE Macdonalds as the fast food joint is within a hop, skip and a jump of the beach. The beach is smaller than our last two beaches but it packs a punch with amenities with beach beds , life guards, toilets, beach sports, childrens playground and a cafe on the beach.
8, Oeiras Oceanic Pool
I know this is not a beach but I am going to sneak this into our list of10 Closest Beaches From Central Lisbon anyway. Just opposite Oeiras marina is the outdoor swimming pool. The pool is a nice alternative to a beach day. The prices are 16 euros for adults at weekends and 10 euros for kids. It has a huge diving board, the highest is 7,5 m, sunbeds, kids pool and a large 1500m2 adults pool and cafe onsite.
9, Torre’s Beach
Torre’s beach is the smaller sister to Carcavelos. The water is very calm and the sand golden. The amenities are beach beds , life guards, toilets, beach cafes and paid parking.
10, Praia de Carcavelos
Praia De Carcavelos is the largest beach on our list of 10 Closest Beaches From Central Lisbon and I have saved the best for last! The beach has everything you need for a great day out, surf schools, beach beds, outdoor gyms, kids park, beach football court, volleyball courts, numbers cafes, easy parking (paid and unpaid) and beach bars.
During the summer is water is calm but cold! During the winter the beach is a meca for surfers. The beach is a 10 minute walk from the station of Carcavelos. A day spent at Carlavelos is a day very well spent, get here early as the beach can get very busy during peak season but during covid there is pleantly of space. Enjoy!
