Avenida da Liberdade is directly in the center of Lisbon and has a wealth of history. “Liberty Avenue” is a 90 meter wide and 1100 meter long tree line boulevard, it starts at Marquis of Pombal Square and ends at Rossio square.
The area was inaugurated in 1764 and the avenue as we know is was built between 1879 and 1886 and modeled on the boulevards in Paris. The buildings along the boulevard include hotels, restaurants, offices from the late 19th through the early 21st centuries.
A great example of the wonderful architecture is the VIP Eden Hotel, this Art Deco hotel.
This old theater was transformed into an hotel, preserving many of the architectural details. The hotel now boasts a rooftop swimming pool.
The street has tree lined pedestrianised areas and with many open air cafes. During the summer months many of the cafes have live music and DJs.
And you can also find the tourist information shop and the fabulous cinema Sao Jorge, playing international films. The opposite side of the street you will find the Hard Rock Cafe to grab a well earned beer.
Avenida da Liberdade is a must visit in Lisbon.
